Making up Your Mind

It seems to me that there is a rash of excuses happening. Don't catch it. It can be debilitating.

As we go about our lives, we make excuses to church, our family, our boss, and to ourselves. I was too busy...I couldn't find the time...I got caught up in this or that. We end up becoming reactionary instead of proactive. It happens to me at work since I work the tech support line (reacting to problems) while managing projects (proactively moving projects forward) oh and let's not forget that black hole called email filled with requests, questions, offers and such.

Here's my lesson for today and I'm going to relate it to your health which is something we all have in common. The excuses we make to ourselves are: I don't have time to work out. I have children (child) with busy schedules. I don't get to see my husband enough as it is; I don't want to take time away at night from family. I'll exercise/eat healthy/control portions/quit smoking/start tomorrow.

The lesson is...wait for it...

It's not about MAKING THE TIME...............it's about making up YOUR MIND.

I've made up my mind to take control of my diabetes. I've added to my "bucket list" of items to obtain an HbA1c level of below 7%. Normal non-diabetics should achieve below 6%. There is no "diabetic diet". And there is no reversal of heart/kidney/eye disease or nerve damage. I've made up my mind to start now.

I've found exercise styles that fit my schedule and my family's schedule. I've taken control of my portions, my sugar intake (this includes fruits! and breads!) and have monitored my results.

Just like I blog in my guest blog at www.joncolier.com, if you don't have metrics, you won't have realized success. Whether it's measuring business ROI, or measuring and controlling your health, you need measurements. But I'm too busy. But it's such a pain in the arse. But some day you'll find yourself sorry... or dead.

And about the choice to take your kid(s) to all sorts of sports or activities; what sort of message are you sending them about taking care of yourself? Teach them by example first, by lessons second. Did you see that word "choice"?! We have free will; we can choose our future by starting with the present.

It's your choice. Make up your mind to make the time.

Absolutely perfect and true. Life is too busy, for sure, but you have to make up your mind to find time to do what needs to be done. Soon there won't be any time left.
